Credit and Debit Cards

Hi,

Someone I know came back from Greece recently and said that there were a lot of places not taking Visa or debit cards, insisting on cash transactions only. Is that the case in AG? Just need to sort taking travellors cheques if this is the case. I usually hit the cash machine for cash and back it up with the Visa.

I haven't tried paying with credit card so don't know the answer but usually get cash from the machine in AG. There are also a couple of cash machines at the airport if you want to be sure of cash. if you have a Nationwide flexaccount there is no charge and a good rate of exchange.

    I may be cynical but this may be due to the currant economic climate. REDDIES in the till leave no electronic tail for tax purposes.

Absolutely, no worries with people doing that Colin. Would be nice if someone has been to AG recently could clarify whether they got refused the use of cards.

Has anybody experienced problems using credit cards in Aghios this summer in the restaurants - need to sort out what I am taking this year, euros,sterling or credit cards??

Hi Nikki,

If you can take Euro then take them...just got back and after speaking to the locals they really would appreciate cash. We didn't use the cards much so I don't really know whether any places were refusing them.
